I need help. I've run out of options for staying.
1. My landlord has passed away.
2. I've been unable to find suitable rentals that allow 2 medium-sized dogs within my budget as a full-time IT state employee. I've looked for YEARS.
3. For other very personal safety reasons, I will "retire" and move to Mexico where finding an affordable place to live is reasonable.
I'm giving up an entire life I've built up--all my things except what I can bring in a van. In a short amount of time, I can only try to sell what I can so I can buy food, pay bills, and use the rest to hire someone to help me leave, and hire others to help me get a rental setup in our new location. I'll have to learn Spanish through immersion. I've thrown in all my credit cards, all of my savings, and took out a small loan to help with this relocation--and I'm falling short.
I will also be listing my car as soon as I'm done with work this month.
My last full paycheck will be on June 23rd for $1300. My first monthly pension check will be on July 31st. That's a big jump and I'm trying to find ways to bridge this. Sales on my things are exceedingly slow. I'll start yard sales in mid-July.
UPDATE 8/3/25:
I'm down to the last 31 days and still working on selling a portable washing machine, a kitchen table, a small computer desk, some vintage wood crates, and a loved, worn 25 yr old camelback sofa (likely will end up on the sidewalk).
I decided I would be at a large disadvantage giving up the car in a city with my dogs. It was only 5 months away from being paid and it has low mileage on it. I'll never have the income to buy another car. Also, the selling process was taking too long. I'm working on getting the legal details sorted out but now my costs have gone up a few grand. I'm required to keep US car insurance and obtain Mexican car insurance. There are permits, smog tests, and another trip to the shop to make sure this car can make the 2200 mile drive. I'll be paying the transport team for another driver for that car to go in tandem with me, the dogs, and my stuff in the van.
Please consider donating to help me and my pups make it to the other side of this nightmare. I did everything "right." I got a degree, paid it off, worked 27 years for the state government in IT, earned a very high credit rating--even with all that, we have no place to exist here. Help us get to that place in Mexico.
Thanks for reading!
