Support a Resilient Mom and Her Son in Asheville

My name is Dorothy Snyder. I am a single mom supporting and homeschooling a beautiful son with income earned solely through Airbnb. We live in Asheville, NC, and were just devastated by Hurricane Helene. When the storm came through it took our power and our water, and it trapped us on the mountain.

My reservations are obviously canceling one after the next, with full refunds given, and I worry about making ends meet until the town is up and running again. I totally understand guests cancelling and wanting a refund. The difficulty is the impact the compilation of all those refunds has on a family. I also worry fewer travelers will come to the area in the months to follow because the Biltmore area and River Arts District, amongst others, were totally underwater. This was a slow year, so I was really excited to have a fully booked October. With all of the cancellations and the slow season coming, I’m just not sure what we will do. We have been out scraping roads and moving branches while the chainsaws cleared our roads. I was inspired by the way the community came together to free us from the mountain after being stuck for two days, so I thought I would reach out to the virtual community as well!
