Support a Racial Justice Camp at Burning Man

Support a BIPOC femme-led camp that organized for more racial diversity at Burning Man!

Burning Man is a place for radical inclusion and free expression that opens the hearts and minds of all who attend. Help us make Burning Man 2022 a more racially inclusive community by supporting Que Viva, a camp dedicated to social and racial justice, freedom and empowerment.

We are a camp of predominantly Black & Brown femmes, queer folks and activists at Burning Man. Our members are doing impactful social justice organizing on and off the playa! We are fundraising to expand our camp infrastructure, providing a safe place for BIPOC Burners. In 2019, when Burning Man last happened, we organized a protest on Playa and an online petition that surpassed 300 signers in which we demanded that the Burning Man organization take bold steps to make the event more racially inclusive. And we won! In 2020, Burning Man began to plan new programs to make the event more accessible to BIPOC attendees. Our camp members have been at the heart of this work, and we are ready to return to the Playa and celebrate!

Since 2013, we have been committed to bringing more racial diversity to Burning Man, where Black campers historically have made up less than 1% of attendees. Our camp creates a safe place for BIPOC participants to experience the event and take lessons back to their community.

We leverage the power of art and dialogue to build community around the principles of radical inclusion, civic responsibility, and participation. 2022 will mark the 8th year we have been at Black Rock City, igniting creativity, championing inclusiveness and educating other Burners about racial justice in a fun and loving way!

Our camp is also a place that gives people of color permission to play and experience pleasure safely in community – practices so often denied or forbidden in the default world due to systemic racism. We host hands-on workshops and conversations about race and inclusion. Each year we make a creative statement in support of Black Lives Matter.

We are expanding our camp infrastructure, which was damaged during the 2-year pandemic hiatus; we are hosting a handful of new participants and improving our communal kitchen and other core infrastructure. Your donation will help make this possible!

Please invest in the joy and play of Black and Brown leaders transforming their communities. Our members have been vital in shaping new diversity initiatives at Burning Man, and we are ready to relax and enjoy ourselves. Thank you for supporting our work!
