Support a Queer, Black, Trans Refugee

Donation protected
Hey, community!

I'm a queer Indigenous femme hosting a fundraiser page for my dear friend who is a queer, trans, Black youth, artist, dancer, model, mc, host, and community organizer who brings so much life to our QTIBPOC (queer, trans, Indigenous, & Black, People of Colour) community. This is an opportunity to invest in this brilliant human & Black Futures.

NEW UPDATE!

HE GOT HIS REFUGEE STATUS!

Thank you for being part of this journey. 9 months ago you all showed up and raised $2,485. The care was felt and made all the more possible to go through the horrors of obtaining refugee status - and also make space to experience some joy and moments of reprieve along the way. We're asking folks to come back on board and help them get through the winter.

BIG STEPS HE'S TAKING NOW...
• Connecting with a social worker who is helping to set up more sustainable supports
• Beginning the trail period for medication to support with complex PTSD, anxiety, and depression

The past 3 months have reached a mental health low where often, making instant noodles is not even possible.

NEW GOAL $1500 BY JAN 15 TO GET THROUGH THE WINTER

$600 - $150x 4 counseling sessions (they have a good relationship with a therapist)
$200 - catching up on bills
$450 - groceries & cat food
$150 - take out when cooking isn’t accessible
$100 - transportation

While it's a victory to achieve refugee status, the trauma of this experience is still one to survive...
• losing connection to your homelands & family of birth due to the colonial impact of homophobia & transphobia
• Being forced to recount and prove the danger of transphobia and homophobia faced is re-traumatizing
• Long bureaucratic processes to access basic health care and ability to work

Through this particularly difficult time and he is doing an incredible job of reaching out for support and showing up to do his own healing work, and taking steps towards his dreams.

Please also consider, often these fundraisers are circulated in under-resourced communities. If you:
• have an intergenerational wealth
• you don't financially support your parents, send money back home, or financially support people in your community
• you own your home
• you have white privilege
• your community generally has their basic needs met (housing, groceries, safety)

Could you donate what you might spend on a nice night out - or a weekend? Could you share this directly to your friends and have a conversation? Could you put a reminder in your calendar to check back in on us in a month & see if you could donate again?
