Hello community,
I hope this message finds you well. I have experienced an incredibly challenging year, navigating through a domestic abuse situation with a former roommate going through alcoholism. The incidents include physical assault, battery, and repetitive sexual harassment, leading to reports filed with the Claremont Colleges and the Police. Despite the severity of the situation, my focus has shifted from healing from a toxic situation to dealing with the aftermath and the stark disparity in how justice is unfolding. Now, I am turning to the Claremont community for help as I attempt to navigate this situation and rebuild my life.
As a victim, I find myself on the brink of homelessness, facing collections, and eviction on my rental history. My former roommate left me with hundreds of dollars of unpaid utility bills, coerced me into covering portions of their rent for multiple months with no intention of paying me back, and violated the terms of our lease on multiple grounds. While working out the details of my impending case, I am working extraneous hours to get my rent for the month and consistently borrowing money to pay for both my bills and legal action. Because of the complex nature of this situation, I am unable to receive assistance from Pomona College for my off-campus emergency situation.
Now that I have exhausted every option, I am turning to the community. As a low-income student at Pomona College, this is supposed to be a pivotal year in my life. Instead of applying to jobs for post-graduation, I am picking up jobs and hours to make up for the hundreds of dollars borrowed by and incurred to me by my former roommate.
It's disheartening to realize that the pursuit of safety comes at a cost.
In the spirit of restorative justice, I believe in collective support. I am reaching out to the community, asking for assistance to overcome these obstacles and regain stability. Your generosity will not only help me find a safe home but dig me out of the hole that has been made for me trying to find a safe home.
Any contribution, no matter the size, is a step towards breaking free from the chains of injustice. Together, we can build a community that values restoration, compassion, and the collective well-being of its members.
If you can provide financial assistance or share resources, please reach out to [phone redacted]. I am grateful for any support and understanding as I navigate this challenging journey towards a brighter and more just future.
Thank you for being a beacon of hope and solidarity.
With gratitude and appreciation,
I’ll leave this anonymous out of fear of retaliation from offenders and alleged protectors.
