Support a Palestinian Student to Attend MIT!

Donation protected

Rose is a brilliant, passionate student who has the opportunity to attend MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) this fall. Growing up in Occupied Palestine, she didn’t have access to the classes or learning resources she sought, but with a fierce commitment to intellectual exploration and an eagerness to overcome any challenge, Rose taught herself advanced mathematics, computer science, how to play the piano and violin, and she gleefully read whatever books she could find. She is an exceptional student, and a joyful and radiant community member. While she received almost a full ride to attend MIT this fall, they are not covering all of her housing, textbooks, or health insurance costs, so we are fundraising $9,000 to cover those expenses. All of the funds will go directly to her college expenses, and make it possible for her to attend MIT in the fall.

Thank you for supporting this deeply special student and her profound love of learning!
Words from Rose:

Hi, my name is Rose Nasim Alslaman. I have lived most of my life in Jericho, Palestine (the oldest city on Earth!)

Whenever I think about the opportunity to attend MIT in the fall, I still can’t help but smile and feel thrilled, even though I found out I was accepted a few months ago. This news does not get old because it is full of so much potential. I firmly believe this could be my ticket for a brighter future, for me and for my family. Hopefully, I can also use this education to uplift and support all of Palestine.

Learning has always been what I enjoy doing most. Even when I think I’ve exhausted a subject, or that I’ve learned the most wonderful thing that can’t be surpassed, I am always proven wrong the more I delve into the subject. I am especially drawn to math, which never ceases to amaze me with its formulas that seem very abstract on paper, but actually represent different parts of our reality in ways that can be computed with ease.

Reading also fascinates me. How could it not when it helps me live countless lives as other people, experiencing other times and worlds I would never otherwise have had the opportunity to experience, all from the comfort of my own home?

Outside of traditional academic subjects, I love to swim, practice Karate, play piano and violin. Without access to any music teachers or classes, I have had to teach myself how to play these instruments, which has further ingrained in me a love of hunting for knowledge.

The opportunity to pursue my passions at MIT, with support and guidance from faculty and peers, is a once in a lifetime opportunity for me. I would be the first person in my family, and in my entire city to attend MIT.

I am determined not to let it slip through my hands, despite the economic burden. While MIT has offered to cover almost all of my expenses, my family cannot afford the remaining cost of textbooks, housing, mandatory medical insurance and the plane tickets to arrive in Boston, MA.

I am eternally grateful to anyone who can help me and my family either by sharing this fundraiser or by donating any amount. Even a small amount helps us out a lot! It means the world to both me and my parents, because every helping hand pushes me a little closer to achieving my dreams.

Truly, thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Rose
