In honor of Colorectal Cancer awareness month, I would like to share my journey. I was diagnosed in May 2024 with stage 4 colorectal cancer, meaning it spread to numerous places including my liver, peritoneal, and spleen.
My whole world came to a complete stop. I now notice things that I did not notice before, such as the wind blowing through the trees, how beautiful the sun would shine on sunny days, the blessing of health that we sometimes take for granted. I only had time for work often neglecting my God, and my children because my focus was providing for them. I realized time is something we cannot get back.
After numerous sessions of chemotherapy, I underwent a surgery (liver resection and splenectomy) in December 2024 that took around 12 hours because I had numerous tumors. My emotions went up and down because I am a Nurse and I am suppose take care of people, not the other way around. It is hard to depend on people when you have never had to, but this is God’s plan not mine.
Monday 3/10/25 I was told I have a new area of cancer in my liver, which has spread once again because I still have cancer in my colon. I will under go another surgery soon to remove the cancer from those places. After that I will undergo another surgery to remove tumors from my ovaries/uterus.
This journey by far has not been easy. Especially on the days when I cannot do the things I am use to doing on a daily basis, or when I have short term memory loss because of my treatments, and the days when I am alone.
Through it all God continues to be good to me. Thank you all for your prayers. God isn’t done with me yet!
