Support a New Prosthesis for a Chance Of Pain-Free Mobility

Most, if not all, of my friends on social media know that I had my right leg amputated in April 2020. This was due to a series of complications caused by peripheral neuropathy. It’s a painful condition that can lead to the development of wounds and serious tissue infections. Right before I went into surgery, my sister started a crowdfunding campaign so that I would be able to afford the cost of a prosthesis. The response was so incredible that I don’t know how I could ever thank my friends enough, especially my sister! Without this help, I wouldn’t have my prosthesis and my electric wheelchair.
Personally, I have a hard time asking for help because I feel so many other people are in worse situations than I am. I have a beautiful family and a roof over my head, so who am I to ask for help? So seeing this response was truly inspiring.
My prosthetic leg and my chair have contributed so much to letting me be an independent person. But my doctors predicted that with time because of how the leg functions it could begin to cause me back pain due to the use of muscles I never needed before to walk. Unfortunately that time has come. My neuropathy already causes me severe chronic pain every day at least 3-4 times a day, each time lasting anywhere from 20 minutes to hours. So with the addition of the high level of pain caused by trying to be mobile and independent I am now having trouble performing simple everyday tasks such as cooking and many of the other things I love to do.
My doctors tell me that I need a new prosthetic leg. The new leg would have a moving ankle with electric pistons and sensors powered by a microprocessor. The doctors let me try one during one of my appointments, and it was an amazing experience. Walking hadn’t felt so normal and painless in a really long time. I instantly knew that there was no other option than to get this prosthesis to continue my recovery and get even closer to what I knew was my everyday life. This is why I am asking for help.
The cost for this leg is a little over $43,000, but my co-pay after insurance is about $2500*. This is still a large sum of money for me to come up with. This is why I started this crowdfunding in hopes that with enough support, I can meet that cost, take the next step on a new road of recovery, and get even closer to living a normal life again. I would really appreciate any help you are willing and able to give, but either way thank you for taking the time to read this and for your support.
(*Any additional funds made past the cost of a new prosthetic leg will be put towards replacement parts for my electric mobility chair, a custom prosthetic partial foot shoe filler, a AFO upper ankle brace, and other medical expenses.)
