Support a Mother-Writer with a Writing Residency in Greece!

I'm excited to share a life-changing opportunity that will take my writing career to a new level. I am reaching to loved ones, friends and supporters to help achieve this long awaited goal.
I've been accepted to a writing residency at Rosemary's House in Greece in September 2025! The selection committee says my writing is "Powerful and profoundly human. It carries an intimacy and honesty that many memoirists strive toward yet seldom achieve."
During the residency, I will be mentored by a bestselling memoirist and a diverse group of writers. I will focus on writing, revising, and shaping my memoir for publication without the interruptions and obligations of everyday life at home. No distractions or distress, needs-wants-based phone calls from adults in my family.
The memoir explores the complexities of motherhood, marriage, identity, race, and mental exhaustion. It centers on the intense adolescent years, raising my two brilliant, yet complicated, autistic sons through their transition to adulthood. I will dive into the toll it took on my mental health, and ultimately the process of healing once the smoke died down enough for me to think clearly about my needs as a whole and complete human, not just a mother.
If you know anything about my story, you realize I have given the better part of my adult life to raising three boys to men, while maintaining a marriage and taking caring for my mother (for the last 15 years).
It's time for me to reclaim my voice and inspire those on a similar path to do the same.
Your support will help me cover:
- Airfare to Greece and incidentals ($1200 U.S.)
- Residency program fee (3995 Euro (4500 U.S.)
- includes meals and ground transportation
Human stories of black families like ours are not often told, especially with my raw, honest, yet humorous style.
In the world's current climate, stories and art remind us we are not alone in our universal experiences, emotions, and need for joy.
Thank you for helping me reach my goal!
