Support a Loving Couple's Transition to Care
Donation protected
My wife and I are in need of help and support to transition to the next phase of life: assisted living. Ten years ago, in 2015, at the age of 58, I was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, a terminal blood cancer with no cure. At the time, the time to live was approximately 3-5 years. MM is one of the most researched cancers. Thankfully, I'm still here after 10 rounds of treatment. But my body is worn out from all the abuses of treatment. One of the treatments caused me to have seizures, which many thought I was not going to make it through. The loss of memory and Deborah's dementia have made life extremely tough.
A year ago, my wife, Deborah, was diagnosed with dementia. She has Lewy Body Disease, also terminal. She's still here but is incapable of managing her life: finances, appointments, driving, etc. Her time left is unknown, but the prognosis gives her maybe a year.
We can no longer do much of anything. Our lives are circumscribed by our diseases.
Everything has happened so fast. We renewed our lease for 6 months and are hoping to move to assisted living at that time. Besides the moving costs, the lifestyle is very expensive for folks like us who live on SS.
We are reaching out to the community for help.
