Support a Little Free Library In Honor of Sarah
Donation protected
Hi everyone,
We’re raising money to install a Little Free Library in the Duke’s parking lot garden in honor of our dear friend and coworker Sarah Niederkorn.
In case you’re unfamiliar, little libraries are small, raised sheds that people put in front of their homes or businesses. Inside the boxes, you put books for others to take at their own whim, and passersby can put their own books in them as well. Purchasing a kit from the Little Free Library non-profit organization rather than building one means that our money goes to supporting their literary-related programs, such as The Impact Library Program, Read in Color, and the Indigenous Library Program.
As many of you know, Sarah was a big reader! This project feels like such a fitting way for us to honor her memory. We plan to get a plaque for the library with her name on it; Sarah had a positive presence on every shift she worked, so it only felt right to continue that positivity in her name. We are going to purchase an unfinished library–once it gets in, we will schedule a day for us all to paint it together! I thought it could be nice for everyone interested to paint their own little flower on the box, in reference to the pins that were given out at her visitation.
I know times are tough for a lot of us at the moment, so there is of course no pressure to donate. We will find a way to purchase our library no matter what is raised here. We thought we’d open it up to all the Dukies though because we felt it may strike a chord in some.
