A Family's Fight for Survival: Hunter and Amanda's Journey with Alport Syndrome

A Kentucky family is facing an unimaginable challenge: Alport Syndrome, a rare genetic disease, has led to kidney failure for Hunter Collins and his mother, Amanda Liles, as well as Amanda’s daughter. They are reaching out for your support as they navigate this difficult journey.

The crisis began in December 2024 when 21-year-old Hunter went into kidney failure. He started grueling hemodialysis sessions three times a week in January 2025. His sister then went into failure in June of 2025. Now, adding to their heartbreak, his 42-year-old mother, Amanda, has also been diagnosed with kidney failure due to the rejection of her ten-year-old transplanted kidney. She will soon begin dialysis alongside Hunter.

This sudden health crisis has created immense financial strain. Beyond the medical appointments and physical demands of dialysis, the cost of treatments, medications, and the inability to work are quickly accumulating. Hunter, a college student, now has the added burden of paying for transportation to and from his dialysis appointments.

Amanda is facing the pressure of supporting her two minor daughters while she waits for federal disability benefits to begin. This mandatory five-month waiting period means their family will have little to no income during this critical time, making it incredibly difficult to cover medical costs, medications, and basic living expenses.

Both Amanda and Hunter are registered at the University of Kentucky for transplant evaluation. They dream of receiving life-changing kidney transplants, which would allow them to regain their health and live full, productive lives.

Your generous donation will directly help Hunter and Amanda with:
* Medical bills: Deductibles, co-pays, and uncovered treatment costs.
* Essential medications: Prescriptions that are vital for managing their condition and for post-transplant care.
* Transportation: Travel expenses for Hunter to get to and from his dialysis appointments, as well as costs for Amanda's appointments.
* Living expenses: Helping Amanda cover basic needs like rent, utilities, and food for her family while she is unable to work consistently.
* College expenses: Supporting Hunter so he can continue his education while managing his health.

Every contribution, no matter the size, brings them closer to managing this crisis and getting the transplants they so desperately need. If you're interested in becoming a living donor, you can reach the University of Kentucky living donor clinic.

From the bottom of their hearts, they thank you for considering supporting them during this challenging time. Your kindness and generosity mean the world to them.
