Support a Journey to Self-Discovery and Growth

As many of you know, I can be a little weird and awkward when it comes to having a conversation with a human. These past couple of years, I have been learning about who I am as an individual. It has come to my attention that I am probably autistic. This has opened up a new world for me in which my struggle with feelings of consistent social confusion and non-belonging has a deeper meaning. It also explains my dinosaur obsession. There are loads of other things I have learned and symptoms I have, but it is too much to explain here.

Moving forward, I plan on meeting with a specialist who will provide me with testing and official diagnosis. She will also have a meeting with my husband, Dustin, to get more information from him and help him understand the way my little brain works.

The downside is, testing is $1800 and these types of services do not accept health insurance.

Is this something I NEED to do? No. I have been able to work through it my entire life, but getting tested and having an official diagnosis would make me feel less alienated in the world. There have been many occasions when I ask myself, what's wrong with me? Why can't I get these things right? Now that I have learned more, it's been an “AHA” moment. And I feel okay about it.

Since getting an unofficial diagnosis, I feel more comfortable with myself and the people around me. I have connected to others even more because of it. I feel embarrassed by saying “I think I'm autistic,” and would rather it be “I am.” It wouldn’t be an excuse for anything, but a reason for it all.

I never ask anyone for any help. As many of you know, the past few years have been tight with money and very stressful in general. I would appreciate any amount that anyone is willing to give!
