Support a Friend Battling MS and Financial Hardship

I am trying to secure housing and find resources to help my long-time friend from becoming homeless. As you know, we are all a set of circumstances away from being in the same position.

Many years ago, my friend, after our first year of college, had a head-on collision, creating a brain injury that later resulted in the development of MS. She’s had various episodes and attacks that debilitate her, making her unable to work and function well. She’s gotten the medications and support she could and has done fairly well considering all the obstacles. However, last summer after the school year, she’s a school psychologist, she had a bacterial infection, typically associated as a side effect from her meds, causing emergency surgery. The recovery for that was long, and as her contract with the school was not renewed, she did not have work and didn’t have the ability to search for new options while recovering.

She’s very unsteady due to the impacts of MS and has broken her ankle previously and recently re-sprained it. Another unfortunate side effect of the medication she’s been taking is causing TED/Graves, making it difficult to see well. We’ve just put in her application for disability this month; however, that process could take several months to be approved. She’s currently 3 months behind on rent, has medical bills, and basic utilities to pay for. Her landlord has been very patient, but we know it’s not fair to expect that to be withstanding.

Myself and another friend are seeing how we can help secure housing and get her support, hoping another job opportunity becomes available that she can handle remotely or disability kicks in as it really should given her medical conditions. If you are able to help in any way, it’s much appreciated! I know this is really hard for her to have exposed, but it’s time to reach out and share.
