My name is Gareth, and I work for South Wales Fire and Rescue Service. Our organisation is built on a shared commitment to protect others, and every day I’m reminded of the strength and compassion within our fire service family.
One of my colleagues has recently undergone some of the most intrusive and life‑altering cancer treatment imaginable. Throughout months of being unable to speak, swallow, or eat, he has never once complained or focused on his own suffering. His only concern has been the impact on his young family—missing out on building his children’s Christmas presents, and the worry his illness has caused them. His bravery, humility, and selflessness have been nothing short of remarkable.
This journey has also placed significant financial strain on his family. His wife has had to reduce her working hours to care for him at home, and they have been forced to take out loans simply to manage day‑to‑day life during his treatment. Despite these pressures, they have faced every challenge with dignity and quiet resilience.
This year, as I turn 40, I’ve been given a 15,000ft skydive as a birthday gift. It’s certainly not something I ever planned to do, and the thought alone sends my heart racing. But I’ve decided to use this challenge as an opportunity to support my colleague and his family in a meaningful way.
I will be completing the skydive this summer, and I’m asking for your sponsorship. Every penny raised will go directly to my colleague and his family, with the aim of giving them the most special and memorable Christmas they have ever experienced.
This is a chance for us to come together and support someone who has faced unimaginable hardship with dignity and courage. Your contribution—no matter the size—will make a real difference to a family who truly deserves a moment of joy after a year of struggle.
Thank you for taking the time to read this, and thank you in advance for your generosity.
