Hi I'm Correnia, I come to you hoping you can help our family help my sister Melissa Wiker-Hess, her husband Mike Hess and kids Jr. and Wyatte after Hurricane Helene. They are in need of gas, water, food, propane for the generator, all the essentials to survive. Unsure how long they will remain without work.
5yrs ago they moved to a little moutain town in North Carolina, Burnsville in Yancey County. Never then could they have imagined the dispare and destruction they would face. Unsure what direction to turn now.
September 27, Hurricane Helene!! They huddled in their home listening to the wind, rain, and hail whipping through the moutain. The sound of trees snapping around them, praying one would not land on the house, hoping that the land would not wash out beneath the foundation. Cut off from the outside they were unaware the magnitude of what they just lived thru. The view from their door, trees tossed like pick up sticks, the closest one in their front yard. But blessed none hit the home.
A normal 15 minute drive to town was no more. It took 3 days and a community effort of resources they had available to them to chop, saw, and dig their way off their moutain road to the main road down the moutain. And that took another 3 hours of travel to reach town and discover that it faired no better. And the essentials they needed they wouldn't be getting.
So the call came for help. Can we help? Can we be the hope they need? Now in a world of uncertainty can we lift them up with kindness? And yes not all are able to contribute financially and we understand that. Be assured all contributions no matter how modest, will be profoundly valued. All well wishes and prayers welcomed.
