Support a Family with ALS

Sylvie came to the US from France for a vacation and to visit friends. Little did she know she would meet her husband on that trip! Leaving friends and family behind in France, Sylvie and Jim, of Bucks County,  were married in 2000. They had a daughter in 2003.  Tragically Jim was diagnosed with ALS in 2009. His disease progressed very quickly and within a year he was in a wheelchair on a ventilator. Besides emotional and physical burden,  ALS creates a severe financial burden. The cost of care for a person with ALS is over $200,000/year.  Sylvie is the primary caregiver for Jim. They have difficulty getting consistent reliable help. I am a wife and caregiver for my husband who has ALS, but my situation is different.  My husband is a veteran and we receive VA assistance for care and equipment.  It is tough for me to take care of my husband for 12 hours overnight.  I can't imagine doing so practically full time while having such financial stress.
