Support a Family Uprooted by Home Repairs
Donation protected
First, I would just like to say thank you to everyone who has been helping us during our struggle so far and thank you to everyone who donates, shares and provides support in ANY capacity. It truly means the world to us and we will forever be grateful for your kindness and generosity. With that said, I'll now explain our situation for those who don't already know.
Back in the last week of August, we had reported a bathroom plumbing issue to the landlord. A few days later a plumber came and said that we can't use the bathroom until they can come and replace the piping. Ok that's fine,do what you need to do right? We lived 5 minutes from my mom so using her bathroom wasn't too big of an inconvenience. What we thought was going to be a 3, 4 day project max turned into being a much longer process... It went from replacing the plumbing in the bathroom to digging up the entire bathroom (the cover photo is the bathroom) AND the kitchen (the house is 840 sqft and it only had 1 bathroom). We ended up with a gutted bathroom and a T shaped hole in the house that was about a foot deep. They used a jackhammer to create the hole which left concrete dust EVERYWHERE. Literally everywhere. Our furniture, the electronics, sentimental/priceless belongings, Rayne's toys, my books, we closed all the doors to the bedrooms so the dust minimal there. We had open cubbies as our pantry so everything exposed was covered in dust. The stove was maybe 2 feet from the hole so we couldn't cook. Our toaster, microwave and air fryer were all damaged. The list goes on. We're now at about 3 weeks since we had a bathroom, when we were told that at that point the repairs are going to take awhile and that we needed to vacate the house for our safety. Since then we've been bouncing from hotel to hotel. They did waive the rent for the month of September so we were able to pay for the hotel but we got no other kind of help from them. We have been fortunate enough to have a family member assist with discounts on her timeshare resorts which helped tremendously. And other family members who helped with money when needed. Taylor and Zoey are both staying with my mom so we don't disrupt their education which I'm incredibly grateful for. We've had to send our dog, Bella, to live with Brandon's parents indefinitely, she's safe and with family so she's not gone thankfully. Yoshi ran away when they were drilling which I'm completely devastated about and we've been sneaking Binx into the resort rooms.
Then, on September 26th we received an email telling us that we had until October 26th to permanently leave the house. They had terminated the lease due to extensive repairs needed, leaving the house inhabitable. They agreed to pay us $1200 which is the deposit and the electric bill (the plumbers used our home outlets to plug in their industrial equipment). We were told that once we vacate they will send the money so as of the past Monday, we no longer live in that hone. Everything has been moved out and put in storage. We were told that the money should arrive within 5-10 business days. We intend to use that as part of the move in costs for an apartment we found. The owners are very kind and understanding people and agreed to hold it for us until we come up with the money to move in. This gofund me is being created for help with a hotel for this week and to help with the move in costs, which is about $5175. This is 1st last and deposit. They are allowing us to pay the security deposit in installments which is cool. So really all we need to move in is $3500. We have about $1000, we have to check out of the hotel on Saturday and we have to book another week. If we book it's gonna take away from the money have saved. This has been the problem since we were told to leave. We have nothing. Our lives were uprooted and destroyed suddenly and it's just been issue after issue. We need help. So please, anything you can contribute is appreciated and sharing the post will put more eyes on our situation. We're on the brink of having to sleep in our car. Please help.
