Help a Single Mom Keep Her Family Housed & Her Children Learning

My name is Sechita McNair. I am a single mother of three boys in Atlanta, doing everything I can to keep my family stable after years of loss, housing insecurity, and financial hardship.

Last year, my children and I were evicted from our home after I fell behind on rent during an incredibly painful time. My foster daughter passed away unexpectedly from an epileptic seizure, and my eldest son, Elias, lost his father to a sudden heart attack. The grief and trauma have been immense, especially for a teenage boy trying to stay focused in school.

Despite these setbacks, my biggest goal has always been to keep my children in stable, well-resourced schools. Education has been our anchor. When we lost our home, we were forced to move far outside the city, away from the schools, libraries, counselors, and community resources my children depend on. I worked extra hours, borrowed money, and secured limited rental assistance to sign a lease back in our Atlanta neighborhood so my eldest could remain at his high school and have a real chance to recover academically and emotionally.

I previously worked in the film industry, but work largely disappeared after industry strikes. Since then, I’ve been driving for Uber and Uber Eats as the sole provider for my three children and my disabled uncle, who has dementia. Even working long hours, the cost of rent, transportation, and basic living expenses has been overwhelming.

Now, we are facing another crisis.

An Urgent Situation

I am once again facing eviction and have a court date in mid-January. Without help, my children and I could lose our home yet again. The constant threat of displacement takes a heavy toll on kids — emotionally, academically, and mentally — and I am fighting to stop that cycle for my family.

How Funds Will Be Used

Funds raised will go directly toward:

Paying rental arrears to stop the eviction and keep my children housed
Tutoring and academic support for my children, especially my eldest, who is working hard to stay on track in school after significant trauma
Every dollar helps us stay rooted in our home, in school, and in a community where my children can access the resources they need to heal and succeed.

I have never stopped working. Stable housing and educational support would give my children the chance to focus on being kids and not just on survival.

If you’re able to donate, thank you from the bottom of my heart. If you can’t donate, sharing this fundraiser is just as meaningful.

Your support helps keep a family together, housed, and moving forward.
