My husband has been diagnosed with a severe case of Achalasia, a disease that attacks the esophagus, preventing him from getting anything into his stomach. This started back in January, and by June he was down to 105 lbs, when he was about 180 lbs. Funds raised will help us keep a roof over our heads and help us potenially pay for a plane ticket down to Seattle for me when he has to be flown down there for the surgery needed to save his life.
We've been together now for 21 years and have three wonderful kids. His heart is his family, and he has been super depressed that he hasn't been able to work to provide. I've done what I can to step up, but bills are stacking up and our truck is falling apart.
A quick definition of Achalasia:
A rare disorder making it difficult for food and liquid to pass into the stomach.
Achalasia results from damage to nerves in the food tube (esophagus), preventing the esophagus from squeezing food into the stomach. It may be caused by an abnormal immune system response.
Symptoms include a backflow of food in the throat (regurgitation), chest pain, and weight loss.
Achalasia can usually be managed with minimally invasive (endoscopic) therapy or surgery.
Update 8/19/2025: He has been released from the hospital, but he still has the feeding tube. Surgery is still needed, but we are waiting to hear when that will be. He can have clear liquids by mouth, but still no food.
Update: 08/26/2025- We had to make a run back to the ER this morning because his feeding tube came out last night. 6 hours in the ER...oi...
Update 9/1/2025: So...our specialist is out of the country, making it hard to get any thing scheduled. Our primary care doctor is on our side, and is pushing for this to be done quickly. It has been confirmed now that he has Stage 2 Achalasia.
