Support a Family During ICE Detention & Legal Process

Donation protected
On Monday (2/2/26), our friend Medina was unexpectedly detained by ICE after appearing at a scheduled court date in San Diego related to his asylum case. Instead of returning home to his family that day, he was taken into custody and transferred to Otay Mesa Detention Center. His next court date is scheduled for February 24, and he will remain detained at least until then, possibly longer.

Medina has lived in the United States since he was a young teen. He has a valid work permit; he's an outstanding painter, a trade he's worked in for over 20 years. Medina is married to a U.S. citizen, Xochitl, and together they are raising two sons, ages 18 and 12, both of whom are U.S. citizens. Until his detention, Medina was the primary provider for his family.

This sudden separation has created an overwhelming emotional and financial burden. Xochitl is now navigating daily life, parenting, and the stress of legal uncertainty without her husband, while also facing the immediate loss of income that supported their household.

Funds raised through this GoFundMe will be used to help cover:
  • Immigration legal fees
  • Rent and utilities
  • Food and basic household needs
  • Phone and communication costs with Otay Mesa Detention Center
  • Lost wages while Medina is detained

This fundraiser is about helping a family stay afloat during an incredibly difficult and uncertain time — ensuring that Xochitl and her sons can remain stable while Medina continues his legal process.

If you are able to contribute, your support will make a meaningful difference. If you’re unable to donate, sharing this page is also deeply appreciated. We are trusting in God, alongside our community, and welcome prayers during this time as we stand with this family during a moment they never expected to face.
