A few amazing women in our community have taken a huge leap of faith and opened an independent bookstore in the Englewood Arts District of Independence.
The owners, Melissa and Chelsea, are dear friends of mine and two of the most inspiring people I know. Watching them pour their passion, creativity, and courage into this bookstore has been incredible. They believe deeply in the power of stories, independent voices, and creating a space where community can truly gather.
This bookstore is more than a place to buy books. It’s a woman-owned, locally rooted space dedicated to uplifting indie authors, supporting artists, and building meaningful community connections. At the same time, Melissa and Chelsea are working hard to support their family while bringing this dream to life.
Like many small businesses, the early days have been challenging. Between winter storms, rising costs, and the general difficulties of opening a brick-and-mortar shop, finances have been especially tight during this startup period. While they continue spreading the word and growing their audience, they could really use a boost to help keep things going.
Every donation—no matter the size—will go directly toward supporting the bookstore through this critical phase. Your generosity helps cover basic operating costs, supports a women-owned small business, and invests in a space built on creativity, inclusivity, and community.
If you’re unable to donate, sharing this fundraiser means the world. Thank you for supporting Melissa and Chelsea, supporting local business, and helping a truly special bookstore find its footing.
You can also support them buy purchasing books using their Bookshop.org!
