Hi there,
I have been accepted into a lucrative Performing Arts Management MFA program starting this fall. I am thrilled to deepen my knowledge of the industry so that I can build something that does not yet exist: A fully inclusive industry that is accessible to all.
Although the tuition for the program is affordable with full time employment, it is a challenge for this Disabled Theater Professional in this current climate. I hope to raise funds for the first year’s tuition. Please share and donate as you can. Thank you kindly for your support and consideration.
About me and my mission:
As a Disabled Stage Manager, I have several incredible achievements as well as several devastating losses. I have sensed an industry hungering for change, and yet, still left without the tools to see those goals and practices through to completion. Many leaders are ignorant of accessibility. This MFA program will launch me into a wider network of industry leaders and connections. I will affect change through these new relationships, conversations, and action. My influence will shift systems, protocols, and planning.
The shortcomings of our theatrical community are apparent. This is why I can contribute to our field, because I see what is lacking. I left a job of three years because my supervisor was discriminatory and made my position untenable. On another job, I arrived out of town to find my living situation uninhabitable. The companies protected themselves from liability in both instances. Each situation could simply have been avoided. Clear communication, forethought, and planning were missing components.
I love the human aspect of my work. As a Performing Arts Management Candidate, I bring my unique perspective and individuality to the program. I fully intend to learn and be changed through these important years. I intend to bring my full self to the program and expect the program to be changed for the good after my time. See you in the Fall!
