I graduated in May and have since been looking for a job to support myself and the kids. I didn't anticipate how tough the job market would be. I have applied to close to 40 positions with only a few callbacks and no interviews. I have even applied to retail positions like Target to get me by until I found a more professional role, only to be rejected due to daytime-only availability.
In July, I used the last of the student aid I'd put aside for rent. I stopped paying all non-essential bills, reached out for utility assistance, and was able to pay August's rent with child support. The child support amount I get from the fathers of my children is just over my monthly rent amount, so I should have been, at the very least, able to pay rent until I got a job. Unfortunately, without any communication, one father decided to stop working on the books and paying child support. Now my ability to pay rent is precarious.
I know times are hard for many people right now and it is incredibly humbling to ask for help, but if you are able to help, it would be a hand up, not a handout. I am still incredibly optimistic that I will find a job soon and stabilize my financial situation.
The amount requested is exactly two months worth of rent at $1,300 a month, but every little bit helps.
