I’m a 43 year old married father of 3 who’s been working 3 jobs for the past 5 yrs to help support the household. On July 4th I had to admit myself to the ER because I couldn’t urinate. It stems from a surgery I had in the mid 80s when I was 3 years old (hypospadias repair) At the time it was done w skin from outside the body, and now it’s done w skin from inside the mouth. It has causes me issues most of my adult life. When they struggled to get a normal catheter in they put in a sub pubic catheter (goes in just above my groin) a ballon blown up in my bladder drains to a bag and I have had it in ever since. Dartmouth has taken a long time to get my surgery scheduled. I go in 11/11 for surgery to repair it and am hopeful I will be able to return to work two weeks removed from it. I haven’t been able to work two of my three jobs since July 4. My UPS job which covers my insurance is full time nights only 17.5 hours a week. I’ve been able to receive medical short term disability which pays about 60% of what I normally would have made. My 40 hour a week job is seasonal as I work the golf course in the summer and the ski hill in the winter. Because it’s seasonal work I’m unable to receive any short term disability. My third job is restocking bread shelves two days a week and is only 4 total hours of work a week and 1.5 hours of that is driving. I’m not even supposed to be doing this work but have decided to continue as it’s small income has helped pay for food. The only reason we haven’t already lost everything is because my amazing wife has a good job and has been able to put in extra hours to try covering what I’ve lost in income. We’ve been able to scrape bye but things are very tight. We’ve had to adjust a lot about how we live and eat in the house. I will unfortunately miss 21 weeks of work total (if I’m able to return 2 weeks after surgery) And at an estimated $1,200 a week less than I would have normally made it’s a grand total of just over $25k in lost salary. We’ve been able to get thru but we need tires on the vehicle as well as service. I’m not sure how much my surgery is going to cost and Christmas is just around the corner. I know things are tough for a lot of people these days w prices continuing to rise in what seems like everything. I’m trying to see if I could just raise 60% of what I would have made ($15k). At this point I would be happy w anything anyone is willing to donate. This has been an incredibly tough summer for me as I’m normally working hard to contribute to this family in trying to provide the best life we can for our kids. And now just normal house work can serve challenging. Luckily my oldest son has been working, he’s 21. My two younger children are 7 and 9. It’s embarrassing and I don’t like having to create a go fund me page but at this point I don’t really know what else I can do to financially contribute. I will be returning to work ASAP but w the continuous pain and irritation as well as my lifting restrictions working now is not realistic.
