Support a dear friend, Gene McCormick

Family and friends, we are humbly asking for your prayers and financial support for a lifelong friend. Eugene McCormick has been my funny, storytelling best friend for 50+ years. Our children grew-up with one another, and now he’s a loving grandfather. Despite his past hardships, Gene does not ask for help. Today, his children (Kelly and Scott) and I are asking for your support and help to assist my best friend.

Unfortunately, Gene has type 2 diabetes, congestive heart failure and other medical issues, including peripheral artery disease (PAD). PAD narrows the arteries, reducing that carry blood flow to your legs, causing nerve damage and leaving you unable to feel pain or wounds. This past week, Gene walked into the Troy Beaumont Hospital emergency room due to difficulty walking, and the discovery a large wound on the bottom of his right heel. After a series of exams, he received devastating news. The sad truth, an infected ulcer caused complete tissue damage, the leg and foot to become gangrene, leaving the bones infected. Due to the severe infection, on May 10th, Gene had an emergency surgery to amputate his right foot. To ensure his heart can sustain the trauma, the leg will be removed once the initial foot amputation has healed. He’s expected to spend roughly 2 weeks in the hospital post-op and has a tough road to recovery. Like any surgery, the procedure comes with risks, such as infection or blood clots, therefore he’ll need rehabilitation, and at-home assistance to build strength, care for the wound and adapt to mobility. Gene is solely covered by Medicare, and does not have supplemental coverage. The surgery will leave him with a large financial burden, medical challenges, and personal mobility obstacles, and the inability to work.

Like most, asking for help does not come easy. By donating to his campaign, we can help to alleviate some of the financial load and stress that comes with his extensive medical care. Our goal is to allow Gene to focus on what truly matters: his physical and mental health. Every contribution helps, no matter the size. Your support will aid Gene to pay for the large medical expenses he incurred from the surgeries, months of physical therapy and rehabilitation he will need to recover, transportation, prosthetic, meals, mobility equipment and medical assistance.

Together, we can make a difference in his life, and show him he is surrounded by our love and support. Please help if you can, and above all, keep him in your thoughts and prayers.
