Hello! We're the cast and crew of a brand new student play, The Pain of My Mother, written by Addison Verot. We are students from Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH, who all have a love for the arts and theater. As we all come from different backgrounds and interests in study, we are so lucky to have bonded together over our love for performing and creating community around it.

The Pain of My Mother is a full-length play set in early 1970s Louisiana and follows a young girl, Missy, whose world is upended by an unplanned pregnancy. In a world shaped by the rigid expectations of Southern Society and the unyielding doctrines of her faith, Missy's story unfolds as a deeply personal struggle within a cultural and political landscape on the brink of change. Navigating her transition from high school to adulthood, she confronts not only the immediate reality of impending motherhood but also the constricting roles prescribed to her as a woman.

The Pain of My Mother began as a one-act play that continued on to receive Dartmouth's Eleanor Frost award and was staged as a reading by the college's Department of Theater. The show has grown to become a full-length two-act play that we are so excited to be producing!

Our dream is to bring this story to life in a full production that will premiere this winter on Dartmouth's campus. We are hoping to raise funds to support the creation of sets, costumes, props, and lighting— all designed by current Dartmouth students who are pursuing a life in the arts.
