Dear 805 Community,

I am seeking urgent financial support on behalf of a friend, who is also a client of The SB Immigrant Legal Defense Center (SBILDC). She is a young single mother who is facing a life-threatening medical and financial crisis. She fled her home country after enduring severe abuse, physical trauma, and the femicide of her mother, who was killed by her ex-partner.

She arrived in the United States with her three young children, determined to rebuild a life of safety and stability and escape the constant threats they were facing before.
She has been engaged in therapy for over a year, working courageously through the trauma of her past. Through the SBILDC, she has received legal representation, case management, and mental health support. Despite her strength and dedication, the barriers she faces as a single mother with no family or financial support continue to place immense strain on her.

Recently, she was hospitalized and informed that she urgently needs a complex surgery. Without it, her health is at serious risk. Typically, this surgery can be simple and have an easy recovery, but due to previous trauma on my friend body, this procedure will be more complex and require a longer recovery period. The expected recovery period for her is one of 2-3 months which will prevent her from working, leaving her unable to pay her $3,000 monthly rent. As the sole provider for her children, this puts the entire family at immediate risk of housing instability.

Therefore, we are seeking financial support from donors and community members to cover two months of living expenses for this family, $7,000 in total. This financial support will allow her to undergo this critical surgery and focus on healing without the threat of eviction. Your support would directly protect a mother and her children during one of the most vulnerable moments of their lives.

Any contribution will help ensure safety, dignity, and stability for this resilient family as they continue rebuilding their lives free from violence.

Please take a moment to read a handwritten letter from my friend attached below. An English translation is provided at the end.

It is in moments like these that we need each other the most. Thank you for standing with us!
