Rescue momma and 4 pups from summer heat.
Donation protected
Hi I am a 78 year old, very retired person with health issues. I live in a fairly remote area, Del Rio, TX which has a very long, hot summer. There is no local rescue/adoption financial or placement assistance that I can find in this area. Some people neglect their dogs here. Not out of maliciousness but just indifference to things like regular feeding, protection from weather, especially heat, and leaving pets alone for days.
In this case a neglected Chihuahua has been outside for years. She has had several litters of puppies. This spring she had a large litter, seven pups. She is 15-20 lbs. She is a very good mama and with a little assistance has kept the pups healthy.
As summer progressed it got much hotter. I built or fixed several shelters and she was fairly happy, but when people or loose dogs came around she became very agitated. About 2 weeks ago she was barking a lot all night. Later that morning a neighbor child knocked on my door and said there was something wrong with her. She was completely collapsed and unconscious. I brought her inside and by a miracle she revived in a few hours. I brought her 5 remaining pups inside also. She can not be outside 24/7 any more and neither can her pups.
I have found homes for two and one that went missing a month ago I got back. I have them all indoors with my dog and cats. I'm looking for good homes and funding to take care of them properly. She needs shots and spayed. The pups will also need some vet care and proper food, bedding, cleaning supplies and such. Gofundme suggested I request more but I put 2,500 with an initial goal of 1,000. I'm going to document all spending.
