Support a 1st-yr Special Ed Teacher’s Classroom Needs
Donation protected
Hello! I am a first year special education teacher looking for support getting everything I need for my classroom. I will be teaching elementary special education in a resource room where students will come to get extra support throughout the day. In special education, it is important to have a space for students to decompress and self-regulate. Building a “calm corner” is my priority, aside from books. I created wishlists through Michael’s and Staples with the items I hope to purchase. I am committed to being the best support for my students and appreciate any help I can get to build a safe, inclusive, and comforting classroom.
A little about me as a teacher:
My passion for special education stems from my own experiences as a disabled student with no support at school or from teachers. I didn’t have any teachers who looked or thought like me, and I hope to be that for my students. As a queer disabled woman of color, I also want to be an example of someone who made it through school for them. I want to empower my students to be proud of who they are and confident in themselves. I’ve also worked in schools where I’ve seen how students in special education are treated. I want to be a teacher that show my students they deserve respect, they are valued members of our community, and with effective supports they can achieve their goals. I believe in supporting my students academic and personal success because they need to learn more than just the core subjects. Our youth are our future leaders, and that includes our disabled youth.
