Sustain the Young African Business Booster (YABB)
Donation protected
The Young African Business Booster (YABB) is a Rwandan social-impact organization that seeks to help rural youth across sub-Saharan Africa overcome poverty, avoid unemployment, and secure their communities by equipping them with the required skills, financial support, and mentorship to create their own sustainable agribusinesses.
In order to become self-sustaining and expand YABB to support youth in East Africa, YABB requires $38,000 in funding. Since its inception in 2019, YABB has relied on its founder Norman Mugisha's personal savings to sustain itself. To date, YABB has empowered 968 Rwandan youth to sustain their communities and improve the livelihoods of those around them, and this number continues to grow. More information about Norman and where your donation is going can be found below.

Testimonials from YABB participants:
"We were provided with financial support, training, and skills on fish production from Young African Business Booster (YABB). Our lives have changed massively in a positive way due to the continued support and mentorship that we keep on getting from YABB. We can create more employment opportunities from our fish production business, fight poverty for not only ourselves but for future generations, and also develop our communities. We are extremely grateful to Young African Business Booster for the training and support we received because it sparked our creativity and reminded us once again that we have the power to put an end to unemployment and poverty." - UbumweTrapia
"We represent a group of 20 members where we started from an idea that turned into a real business. With the help and support of Young African Business Booster (YABB), we were able to start our very own pig rearing business. Most of us were unemployed and did not have the capital and drive to start our business ideas but with YABB’s mentorship and financial support, we were able to come up with a pig production idea and other different innovative ideas on how our pig rearing business can stand out. Our business is progressing day by day because we started with only 5 pigs and now have 15, with each pig going up to 100 USD. We are grateful because it is a source of income for all of us. Apart from skills YABB also gave us initial capital to buy pigs and now we are entering into crop production. We are optimistic that this will lead us to prosperity and the economic development of our community." - Ejoheza Pig Production Ltd
"The 3-months training with Young African Business Booster (YABB) inspired us to start our fruit and vegetable business after receiving all the necessary skills and four hectares of land. We were not only provided with financial support to start our business but a stable market as well. Finding a stable market is a challenge that many of us farmers in rural communities face which leads to opting out of fruit and vegetable farming and also leading to other postharvest losses. We harvested produce worth 700 USD in the first season and expect to produce 2000 USD worth in the second season. It makes us extremely grateful to YABB when we see our products bought because it motivates us and also improves our income from our businesses and our wellbeing in general and inspiring other youth to get involved." - Tuzamurane

Some more details regarding YABB:
YABB's training program supports men and women between the ages of 16-35 by offering theoretical and practical training on business formation. YABB additionally provides program participants with microloans and access to stable markets as they execute their visions. After Norman Mugisha founded YABB in 2019, 600 youth have enrolled in YABB’s program. 82% of the participants have completed the training sessions and successfully started their own businesses. They are contributing to their communities by employing others in their businesses.
In order to become self-sustaining and expand YABB to support youth in East Africa, YABB requires $38,000 in funding. This money will be used to supply the 100 groups of 10 with $300 of startup capital.
Norman's overarching goal is to expand YABB to all East African Countries and help over 15,000 young people to create their agribusinesses by 2026. In response to the negative effects of Covid-19, YABB plans to help another 1,000 youth in the next year alone. These 1,000 young people will be organized into small cooperatives and associations and provided with $300 of capital. The $300 loan will be extended with a 5% interest rate and expected return period of 1 year. Once these businesses’ revenues become more extensive, YABB will connect them with banks and other microfinance institutions to help with expansion efforts. We also want to raise $8000 to establish a new food grocery for them where their harvest will be collected and connected to consumers.
