Brother Usine Camara has always been a pillar of our community, quietly and sincerely serving others whenever there was a need. As a dedicated member of the janaza team at PGMA and other mosques, he was the person we called when a family was grieving or needed guidance on how to care for the deceased with dignity. He never asked for anything in return, always putting the needs of others first and teaching so many of us how to support families in their most difficult moments.

Six months ago, Usine’s life was turned upside down. As he stepped outside his home in Maryland, he was detained by ICE and transferred all the way to Texas. Since then, he has not seen his wife or children, and his family has been left struggling to stay afloat. They are now three months behind on rent and facing the threat of losing their home, all while Usine remains hopeful that he will not be deported. His wife and children are American citizens, and his only wish is to return home to them and continue being the good, peaceful, and contributing member of society he has always been.

Today, I am reaching out to you from the heart. Usine’s family needs us now, just as he has always been there for us.
