HELP CREATE A PORTABLE HOME TO SUPPORT PREMA'S FLOOD RECOVERY

Hi I'm Prema, I've been through a lot in the past few years. In March
2022, catastrophic floods deeply impacted my home in Mullumbimby, Australia.
I lost over 75% of my belongings. I'm currently living in temporary Disaster Relief housing, and I'm urgently needing a safe and secure home to call my own.

I am in my early 60s, living with a disability, and unable to afford a rental anywhere due to skyrocketing prices. That's why I decided to build a portable home – a safe home on higher
ground that will protect me from future floods, and allow me to rebuild my life.

Thanks to saving hard, amazing community support, and a small inheritance after my mother's passing last year, I've already raised most of the funds I need! I promised her I would use the money to house myself. But I'm still short $9,000 to finish the build.

Every penny raised will go directly toward making this home in reality. I need your help to finish this project and finally move into a place that I can call home

Please donate and share with your friends – together, we can get this home built and give me the safety and peace of mind I desperately need.

Thank you for your kindness and generosity. So close to making this dream a reality!

WHY I WANT TO CREATE A PORTABLE HOME
I fear homelessness as much as I fear being flooded again.
I have been living in this shire for 30 years. Due to my age and disability, I need to stay close to my friends and support networks.

I’ve tried everything to find a new home, but this district's already burgeoning housing crisis has pushed rent up far out of my financial reach. With no way to compete in the rental market for a safe home, I feel very vulnerable and deeply anxious.

Instead of remaining stuck and cornered by 'disaster trauma' and unaffordable rentals, I am now calling out to my community and beyond to ask for financial assistance to help me create this portable home to call my own.

HOW WILL I DO THIS
The cheapest, simplest and most durable way to do this would be to create a portable home on a trailer, using interlocking (SIPS) panels with an eco-friendly insulating core. I’ve seen a friend making one for himself on a trailer, and it would be perfect for my needs.
It would be constructed to be legally tow-able and insurable on public roads if it has to be moved. I have people around me with the expertise and experience to advise and construct.
To build this would take 10 days, from raising the first panel, to moving in.
Labour costs would be minimised as no carpentry is needed for assembly.
This home on a trailer would be strong enough, and spacious enough, to live in and last at least 25 years, which would solve my housing needs for the rest of my life despite my minimal income.
My goal is to be in by my 65th birthday in June 2025. However, I will keep this fundraiser open for as long as is needed.

Anything over this would be used to make the home self-sufficient for power, toilet, water tank, and pot belly for heating.

HOW YOUR DONATIONS WILL IMPACT MY LIFE
I have dreams, plans and goals. I long to put down roots again where I can settle and focus on my passions of learning to grow food (in a flood-free zone), resume my Chi gong training, and share what I love with the people around me. Given a chance, all of this would resolve my housing stress and improve my financial situation

I ask you to please help me to reach my goal by sharing my fundraiser link with as many of your friends and contacts as you can :-)

I know thousands of people have been affected by the floods, just like me. I am deeply grateful for those of you who are my friends and wish to offer support. For those who don't know me, this could be an opportunity to practice a random act of kindness, and by doing so, make a difference to the overall number of people struggling since the floods. Thanking you in advance for your kindness...
