What my brother is teaching me

Kelo was diagnosed with a brain tumor last February. We’re four siblings, and we always said he’s the strongest one. He never gets sick, and when he does, he simply does not allow the illness to bring him down. After he got diagnosed, it was him, not us, who set a calm and optimistic tone to the whole thing. He had surgery on March 10th. The surgery was successful. Kelo decided to go through a high-speed healing process by respecting every step of the recovery process. My brother loves sports, so he had the motivation, to play sports again.

Now it’s four months after the surgery, and we learned another tumor has grown into my brother’s brain. These tumors grow quickly. Kelo started playing sports again a month ago. People, even doctors, couldn’t believe it. I truly think my brother’s boldness, defiance, and fortitude helped him recover quickly as well. This time, the tumor cells were quicker, though.

My three siblings and I created this campaign so that Kelo can have everything he needs to not only go through surgery again but also to get the necessary treatment so that tumors won’t come back ever again. The treatment we're following is even meant to avoid surgery since this time it will be riskier and more hostile. We’re faithful and hopeful, just as much as Kelo is. This time our brother’s mind and body have been debilitated. We, however, will be the ones to set the tone now and help him heal through every step of the way.

Kelo fue diagnosticado con un tumor cerebral en febrero pasado. Somos cuatro hermanos, y siempre dijimos que él es el más fuerte. Nunca se enferma, y cuando lo hace, simplemente no permite que la enfermedad lo tire abajo. Después de que le diagnosticaron, fue él, no nosotros, quien trajo un tono tranquilo y optimista a todo el asunto. Fue operado el 10 de marzo. La cirugía fue exitosa. Kelo decidió pasar por un proceso de curación de alta velocidad respetando cada paso del proceso de recuperación. A mi hermano le encantan los deportes, por lo que tenía una motivación, volver a practicar deportes.

Ahora pasaron cuatro meses después de la cirugía y nos enteramos de que otro tumor ha crecido en el cerebro de mi hermano. Estos tumores crecen rápidamente. Kelo volvió a hacer deporte hace un mes. La gente, incluso los médicos, no podían creerlo. Realmente creo que la audacia y la fortaleza de mi hermano hicieron que pueda recuperarse más rápidamente. Sin embargo, esta vez, las células tumorales fueron más rápidas.

Mis tres hermanos y yo creamos esta campaña para que Kelo pueda tener todo lo que necesita no solo para volver a operarse sino también para recibir el tratamiento necesario para que los tumores no vuelvan a aparecer nunca más. Tenemos mucha fe, y estamos esperanzados, tanto como él. Esta vez la cirugía es más arriesgada, más hostil. Estamos haciendo un tratamiento que incluso podría evitar la cirugía, y vale un costo verdaderamente alto para nuestra familia. Esta vez, la mente y el cuerpo de nuestro hermano se han debilitado.
