The influence of the Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos foundation in Guatemala has reached Chicago's South Side—James R. Doolittle Elementary School to be exact. Despite the dissonance between Chicago Public Schools and the Teachers' Union, many students have persevered through their current educational state by keeping their gaze on problems they feel are more important. Six students at Doolittle have vested their interest in an orphanage in the dense forest of Guatemala. Doolittle students have found a way to foster empathy for those less fortunate, even in the midst of the public debacle of CPS.

Malaysia, Aaron, Desaray, Rico, Natashia, and Dasianae are a part of a student led social justice group, the Doolittle Six, that identifies problems in their local and global communities. This year, the Doolittle Six are taking on issues of childhood poverty and access to healthy food. Doolittle has the unique opportunity to visit Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos orphanage in Guatemala, in hopes to participate in a community exchange of resources, stories, and good spirits. Please support the Doolittle Six in their endeavors to learn how to build sustainable systems in fighting childhood poverty. Their goal is to bring back innovative practices that can transform their South Side communities and build global relationships that will broaden their understanding of the world.

The campaign we are running seeks to sponsor 6 students and 2 staff members.  We are aiming for 100% sponsorship by Friday, March 18th in order to participate.

The trip is scheduled for Friday, April 1st through Friday, April 8, 2016.

These funds will cover the cost of airfare, ground transportation in Guatemala, food, lodging, and a 6-month sponsorship of Pequeños Hermanos (a Guatemala child).

The Doolittle Six will gladly post a video of their learning and newly formed global relationships upon their return.   Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, and mucho gracias! (6 thank yous for each Doolittle Six).
