Our lives have been forever changed by an unimaginable tragedy. David was tragically shot four times and lost his life. During the same incident, his daughter, Emani, was shot in the back and survived, but she is now facing the devastating reality of paralysis from the waist down.

Emani is also a new mother who welcomed her baby only a few months ago. She is now grieving the sudden loss of her father while beginning an unexpected journey of healing, rehabilitation, and learning how to navigate life after a catastrophic injury. David also leaves behind children who loved and depended on him, and our priority is making sure they continue to have the love, stability, and support their father would have wanted for them.

This fundraiser was organized by Marie Antwanette Washington, David’s sister and Emani’s aunt. Susan Tavarez, David’s mother, is the co-organizer and beneficiary and will receive and manage the funds raised. Susan is handling David’s funeral expenses and will also oversee the distribution and use of the remaining funds on behalf of David’s family.

Donations will be used for David’s funeral, burial, memorial, and related final expenses; Emani’s rehabilitation, recovery, accessibility, mobility, transportation, and related needs; and support for David’s children. Susan will distribute or use funds on behalf of David’s children as needed and may also use funds for necessary expenses she incurs while caring for and supporting David’s youngest children, David Jr. and Dominic.
 
No amount of money can bring David back or undo what happened, but these donations can help ease the financial burden surrounding his loss and provide support and stability for the family he leaves behind.
