Support 8 Year Old Khanya As She Battles LCH

Donation protected
Just a few months ago Ivan and Daphne Solano received devastating news about their daughter Khanya who is in grade 2 at OLPH.  It was shortly before her 8th birthday when Khanya started complaining about pain in her neck.  As the pain soon became unbearable Doctors at SickKids discovered a tumor growth and half of her 5th vertebral bone in her spine destroyed. She was diagnosed with a very rare condition known as LCH (Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis) which is treated with chemotherapy.  Today Khanya wears a neck brace constantly as her spinal cord is at risk of catastrophic injury.  Khanya is at the start of what will be several rounds of chemotherapy and at the end will have another MRI and her treatment plan re-evaluated.  Throughout all the tests, MRI’s and surgery, Khanya has been incredibly brave….she is a fighter and wants to be a normal 8 year old girl for as long as she can be.  Khanya’s biggest worry has been for her parents.  Although they mask it best they can, she sees the worry in their eyes and feels it in her heart.

As we can only imagine, Khanya’s family’s world has been turned upside down.  It is every parent’s worst nightmare and we all hope it will never happen to us.  They have had to navigate a challenging medical system with endless appointments and tests.  They have spent sleepless nights worrying, while keeping a brave face caring for Khanya and while balancing the needs of their teen aged son Kenzo who attends St. Michael’s Choir School.

Through all of this, they have been trying to maintain financial security by continuing to work to pay the bills.  The family is exhausted, physically, mentally and emotionally. For any family, it is simply too much.

Khanya’s Mom Daphne is a contract worker Occupational Therapist - only paid when she works, and Ivan has had to put his PhD work on hold in order to support Khanya's day to day treatment needs.

Far away physically from their extended family the Solano family needs our community’s support.

Raising money through this GoFundMe page will ease the financial burden on the Solano family.  Over the next days, weeks and months there are financial obligations with all the ongoing medical, living and travel expenses that quickly add up at a time when the family’s income stream is very limited.  The family – shy to ask for help - has already made significant changes to reduce their living costs.  Khanya no longer has the energy to take the bus to school and to the hospital so they are needing to take an uber…etc.

Our community can help this family in their time of need.

Please donate whatever you can to this devout Catholic family to help ease their financial burden.  And if you can’t, please keep Khanya’s health and healing in your prayers and pray for strength for the Solano family.

We humbly ask you to share this with friends and thank you for your donation and your prayers.
