Hi All ,
Our dear friend Gaux (they/them) is preparing for a gender-affirming surgery in late April 2026, a surgery they’ve been working towards for many years.
Top surgery, or chest masculinization, removes breast tissue and creates a masculine chest contour. For many trans and nonbinary people, this procedure is not cosmetic—it is medically recognized as affirming care that significantly improves psychological well-being, physical comfort, and overall quality of life.
Gaux’s capacity to meet people exactly as they are—and as they are becoming—is profound. They understand identity as something living, expansive, and nonlinear. For Gaux, this surgery represents relief, and the ability to move through the world with the chest "of their dreams".
Gaux is a poet & artist who has been rooted in Chicago’s creative community for the past six years. Their art practice reflects a deep commitment to self-expression, transformation, and care. In addition to this fundraiser, 100% of the proceeds from their screen-printed clothing (GAUX PRESS) sold at Gem: A Vintage Collective will go directly toward covering surgery costs.
We are raising funds to cover:
- Surgery costs: $12,000
- Six to eight weeks of post-operative living expenses: $3,000 (rent, groceries, utilities during recovery)
Total Goal: $15,000
Recovery will require 6-8 weeks away from work and physical strain. Community support during this time will allow Gaux to focus fully on healing without added financial stress.
Gaux also wants to acknowledge that while their gender-affirming care is deeply important to them, there are many other urgent needs within Chicago and beyond right now. If you are in a position to give further than this fundraiser—or if you’re unable to contribute financially here—please consider supporting:
- Illinois Coalition For Immigrant & Refugee Rights (ICIRR)
- Brave Space Alliance
- Midwest Immigration Bond Fund
Every contribution, no matter the size, makes a meaningful difference. And if donating isn’t within your comfort or capacity, sharing this fundraiser with your community is equally important.
Thank you for helping Gaux take this step.
With gratitude,
Gaux’s friends and family
