On Thursday, April 30, 2026, August, our 3-year-old daughter was violently attacked by a neighbor dog. She sustained serious cranial injuries. The attack took the middle of her forehead, and she lost all her skin, tissue, and layers of muscle. She also has several other head wounds. Due to the force of the bite, she was seconds away from being killed. It was a terrifying experience, and we are so grateful that the dog’s owner was able to pull the dog off before it was too late.
The local ER was not able to give August the care she needed, and she had to be transported right away by ambulance to a larger city with a hospital that had a team of plastic surgeons to work on her. The surgeons did what they could, but the main forehead wound was so large and deep it could not be closed. Ongoing wound cleaning and re-bandaging is very painful. There have been many complications since the attack. Our family will be traveling regularly to the hospital out of town to meet with the plastic surgeons. The doctors anticipate it will take years for August to fully heal, and she will require more procedures in the future.
August faces a long road to recovery, and the funds raised will go toward covering her procedures, medical supplies, our growing bills, travel expenses, and the ongoing care she needs to heal and regain her strength. We are asking for help from our community and anyone who feels moved to support August. Your generosity will make a real difference in her recovery, and we are deeply grateful for any support you can offer. This has been very traumatic for our whole family, and we thank God our baby girl is still alive and with us! Thank you for standing with us during this difficult time!
With gratitude,
The Scherer Family
