Support 3 El Paso children who lost their father in violence
Donation protected
Hello, I am raising funds for my cousin and her children. All funds will go to my cousin, who has been a single mom but has now lost the support of her co-parent due to a shooting at Nations Tobin Park on 6/20.
One of the men involved in the shooting has died, and the other two are his family members in critical condition. The man who passed away is the father of my cousin's children.
Regardless of the situation and his involvement, I will say this: He took care of his kids every other weekend and in the summers. His 3 children, ages 14, 13, and 11, were supposed to go with him all of July just as they did last summer. He also leaves behind another child and a pregnant girlfriend. I will not be raising funds for them as I am not in contact with the mother, but will share any GoFundMe that she or her family sets up.
The children's father, Joey, had just attended his daughter's middle school graduation. He just had his children the previous weekend before this happened.
My cousin, the mother of Joey's 3 children, is a single mother who is hardworking. She does not receive government assistance and works full-time. I am raising these funds for both her and the kids as she takes time off work to grieve and be there for her children, who no longer have a father. She is just as much in shock and in grief as she had a relationship with him for a long time, and she grieves for her children. I would like to raise as much as possible for them so that the kids may have access to therapy and so that they may grow up and be able to get a better education and life than what they may have seen with their father.
My goal is not to discuss the circumstances of the children's father's death or to be in competition with his current girlfriend/family in raising funds if she chooses to do so. I am not attempting to absolve him of any guilt, nor argue about the type of person he was. I have known him since high school, when he and my cousin started dating. But in a world full of men who don't even take their children on weekends- he took them and took care of them long term in the summer. All money will go to my cousin, Angel, and she may choose where the funds go.
For the children's protection and sensitivity, I will not be posting recent pictures of him with the kids. He took pictures with his daughter for her graduation. His middle child was with him until Thursday. His dad was his favorite person, and he was able to spend time with him until the day before he passed.
Thank you so much.
