Hi, I’m Eric Sweeney, founder of The Thriving Dog, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to supporting the wellbeing of street dogs in Mexico.
Today, I was informed of a devastating situation in Guadalajara. The owner of Saint Vincent’s Home Shelter passed away on Sunday, December 14, leaving behind an urgent and heartbreaking crisis. Nearly 250 dogs are now without care or leadership, living in unsafe and unsanitary conditions.
These dogs are surrounded by their own waste, with no reliable access to food, medical treatment, or basic supplies. Many are unsterilized, suffering from fleas, and lack vaccinations. Most distressing of all, the dogs are left unattended overnight, leading to violent altercations — four dogs lost their lives last night alone.
We are in dire need of immediate support to mobilize local rescue organizations across Jalisco, Mexico, and stabilize this emergency. An action plan has been developed to:
- Identify and remove the most vulnerable dogs immediately
- Clean, disinfect, and reset the shelter environment
- Create pack structure and supervision to prevent further harm
- Begin medical treatment, vaccinations, and sterilizations
- Provide all dogs with a real opportunity to find safe, loving homes
Time is critical. With your help, we can stop further loss and begin caring for the dogs who have been left behind and forgotten.
Please consider supporting this emergency rescue effort. Every donation allows us to act quickly and save lives.
Thank you for standing with us in this moment of urgent need. ❤️
