Support 23 year-old after brain surgery

Lillian Lachman is a witty, loyal, vibrant 23-year-old. After graduating from Chapman University in 2021 with a B.A. in Political Science, Lillian moved back to San Francisco for her dream entry-level job at the Golden State Warriors. Lillian is the first person to inform her network with ESPN and related headlines. A dedicated Warriors fan, she doesn’t let anyone she loves get away with not being up to date on recent Dubs wins or relevant gossip. She’s eager to return to her Warriors family and hopes to return to school to obtain a Master’s in Sport Management.

Two months shy of her 24th birthday, our twin sister and best friend, Lillian, had a hemorrhagic stroke due to a spontaneous brain bleed. On the evening of February 1, Lillian experienced a severe headache sending her to the ER. After several scans confirmed a massive brain bleed, she was in emergency brain surgery by 2am. The neurosurgeons performed a six-hour craniotomy, removing the right skull bone flap to relieve life-threatening blood, fluids and pressure in the brain.

Over a two week period, Lillian was sedated, slowly stabilizing on life support at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center. She has endured additional invasive, life-saving procedures. Unfortunately, an EVD drain required to treat the symptoms, caused a second bleed on the left of the brain. She has since stabilized and is recovering at Kaiser Permanente.

Long-term rehab will be needed for months and years. The necessary treatment includes a combination of speech, physical and occupational therapy as Lillian re-learns how to talk, walk and live independently. She has shown extreme determination and demonstrated great tenacity in her therapies thus far. A cranioplasty surgery will be scheduled in the coming weeks/months to replace the original bone in the skull. Neurosurgeons are currently holding the theory that this was a spontaneous brain bleed with no prior symptoms. Likely the source is an artery or vein malfunction.

We are asking for her friends and family to come together and support Lillian’s ongoing recovery and significant future medical needs. Although she has great recovery prospects, it will take years to understand all the deficits and regain all function. All proceeds will go directly to Lillian to cover her previous and future medical bills as well as her ongoing extensive therapies. We thank you in advance for your support during this difficult time.
