My name is Amy Stire, and I have the privilege of being Luke’s aunt. The Team Luke fundraiser has been created to support Luke and his parents, Tim and Libby Brown.
Luke is 12 years old and has been diagnosed with mesenchymal chondrosarcoma (MCS), an extremely rare and aggressive pediatric cancer.
Luke is brave, kind, and resilient beyond his years. While he should be focused on playing baseball, riding mountain bikes, being part of his school wrestling team, and simply being a kid, Luke is instead facing months of intensive cancer treatment. Because of how rare his cancer is, Luke’s treatment plan includes participation in a clinical trial and specialized pediatric care out of town.
Luke undergoes treatment every three weeks, and each visit requires extended travel and a week long stay away from home for him and his parents.
As Luke fights this battle, his parents are doing everything possible to support him emotionally, physically, and financially. There are many unavoidable costs that come with long-term pediatric cancer treatment, including:
- Travel and extended stays away from home
- Food, lodging, and daily living expenses
- Lost income from time away from work
- Ongoing needs during and after treatment
