Hi, I’m Kate Davis, a parent in the Hoover City Schools district. Several teachers in our community have expressed their concerns and interest in obtaining portable HEPA units (fans that efficiently clean room air through filters) to supplement existing building ventilation (as recommended by ASHRAE) but don’t have the personal funds for them. I’m trying to quickly pair teachers with donated units while they’re on sale/ available. With highly contagious omicron covid spreading (and other things like pollen as spring approaches!), my aim is to support our teachers and students by mitigating infections and interruptions. I’m keeping a list of teachers as they approach me and would like to buy units each time we reach the needed amount. Brands and models that are available on the shelf locally or for prime shipping vary, but an estimated $250 would cover a unit as pictured above. (MA-40 on sale currently plus taxes and GFM fees). There are also options to build DIY units but trying for the fastest “plug n play” solution to keep people HEALTHY and PRESENT in our classrooms! I’m keeping teachers’ names private as their personal health concerns are their own business, but will ask them permission to share their appreciation as we make the donations.
