My name is Bill Rierson, and when I was nine years old, my dog was diagnosed with diabetes. This started my journey in learning about diabetes as I cared for my dog for the remainder of his life; I learned that some of my family members and others lived with diabetes daily. When I was 12 years old, I started helping at free medical clinics. I attended the diabetes education classes that ended with supplying patients with a diabetes monitor and testing strips so they could measure their blood sugar levels. I then came to the realization there was a shortage of available monitors, testing strips, and other essential supplies for managing diabetes. This launched Sugar Check Charity, in which money and diabetic supplies are raised through fundraising and then given to free medical clinics that educated their patients on properly managing diabetes.
