In the summer of 2019, I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to spend three weeks in Ghana. I volunteered at Zion College to help improve students’ English and math skills and contributed to the school’s needs. This even included brick-making to construct more rooms at the facility. I immersed myself in the Ghanaian culture by playing soccer, learning Ewe, and adapting to cultural norms. This trip ignited my desire to improve the quality of life and education for underprivileged children in Ghana. Ghanian people are friendly and contagiously happy; adults and children alike have an innate childlike curiosity. In the classroom, the excitement was tangible as they were learning about multiplication and division. Students value their education, they cherish nearly everything in their lives. The euphoria I have felt in the presence of these students is a feeling which cannot be put into words or replicated elsewhere. This feeling is my motivation to support the students of the school in their scholastic endeavors. At the moment, the kindergarteners are in urgent need of school supplies to kick start their educational journey. My goal is to provide them with them with learning material like flashcards, books, and pencils by early May of 2021. Any donation, no matter how big or small will make an impact on my project! A mere $15 toy medical kit may inspire a child to become a doctor in the future. My hope is that by funding their education from an early age, students will achieve success and stability in the future. Thank you in advance for your generosity, it means more than you know!
