My name is Min Gurung. I’m originally from Bharatpur, Chitwan, Nepal, and I came to Australia as an international student, full of dreams and hope. I never imagined that life would take such a difficult turn.
For the past 2.5 years, I’ve been living with severe back and leg pain caused by a serious spinal disc bulge. I've tried every possible treatment—physiotherapy, injections, medications—in Nepal, India, and here in Australia. But nothing helped. In August 2024, I finally went through spinal surgery at St George Private Hospital in Sydney. I had to borrow money from Nepal, friends, and take out loans. Unfortunately, insurance only covered a small part, and because it wasn’t a work injury, I received no work compensation or medical support. But instead of getting better, things got worse after the surgery. My doctors have now recommended a second urgent surgery. This time, insurance is not covering anything since it’s another surgery within the same year. I still have unpaid some hospital bills from the first operation, and I haven’t been able to work since 2022. As a student living alone, it’s been mentally, physically, and financially overwhelming. I can’t walk properly, I can’t cook, and even simple daily tasks are painful. I’ve been through this entire journey alone in Australia.
I’ve done my best, asked for help back home, borrowed money, and stayed strong—but now I have no options left.
So, with a humble heart, I’m reaching out to you. If you are able to help in any way, it would mean the world to me.
