Help Michael House Steiner School

THE HISTORY

We are an independent co-ed school in the heart of Derbyshire. Surrounded by beautiful parkland, our school provides Steiner Waldorf education from birth to 16 years. The school was founded in 1934 by Edith Lewis the daughter of a local factory owner. She wanted to bring Waldorf education to Ilkeston and through the last 83 years the school has been led by dedicated teachers who have continued her legacy to this day.
In recent years the school has struggled financially and in 2015 the school came close to closing. We
receive no funding from the government and our fees simply cover the running costs of our school. We have a strong community and parent body supporting the endeavours of our education and we
are constantly fundraising to help with expenses.

THE AIMS

Over the last year we have been working at turning the School round. A very poor inspection report
in January this year was followed by an inspection report in June where huge progress had been
made in all areas seen as weaknesses. School morale has improved enormously and we are ready to
take the School forward and continue the improvements we want to see.  Now, looking to the future, we need your help.  Our school buildings need some TLC to improve their appearance and functionality.  We want to be able to offer our very special kind of education to pupils whose parents might
otherwise find it difficult to afford.  We want to create a 3rd Kindergarten where demand is high and which will in the future provide a solid foundation for the School.
We are reaching out to everyone sharing our wish that the School continues to offer the nurturing and caring education which we pride ourselves in.
