Griffith Film School presents SUPERSONIC ROCKET SHIP Short Film!
We need your help to bring our 11-minute science fiction student film to life just like our ambitious heroine, Halley, brings her intergalactic dreams to life!
At its heart, Supersonic Rocket Ship is a story about defiance, innovation, and the courage to break free from the systems that try to contain us — a rebellious journey of one woman who must outsmart the very institution that shaped her to claim her place among the stars.
Our writer-director, Kyle O'Donohue and producer, Rosi Floriani, along with our passionate crew believe in the power of imagination, the essence of this short film. We live in a world where, as we grow older, we are also told to "grow up" and forget about our "childish" and "unattainable" dreams. Supersonic Rocket Ship hopes to convey a sense of wonder and imagination. We want to inspire our audience to tap back into their dreams and shoot for the stars!
This project has been entirely self-funded by our student crew.
With your generous financial support, we will be able to elevate this project even further — creating a quality film where bold creative vision and exceptional filmmaking can truly reach their fullest potential.
Your contribution, regardless of size, will directly go towards:
- Production design: Our art department has to build a rocket(!), make an intricate space suit, and craft specialised key props. We are dedicated to creating an immersive story world with quality props, costumes, and puppetry.
- Catering: We want to fuel our team as they work hard over the POC and 6-day principle shooting block.
- Locations: We will be filming at multiple locations, including office spaces, a warehouse, and a large acreage property.
- Post-production: Halley goes to space! Therefore, we want to aid our editor with the tools they need to excel in VFX.
- Festival submissions: We plan to share our film with the world through film festivals and screenings. Your support will have an impact not just on us but on our community.

SYNOPSIS:
In a world where regular joes have the resources to build rocket ships, Halley, a gifted young aerospace engineer, turns her back on an authoritarian NASA to try to strike out on her own. When her attempts are repeatedly sabotaged by a NASA task force led by her former mentor Collins, Halley uses their tricks of sabotage against them. By finally rebelling against the system dedicated to keeping her grounded, only now can she achieve her goal of reaching the stars.
STORY SUMMARY:
Halley builds a rocket in her backyard by herself as she dreams about reaching the stars above her. Just about to launch, Halley is ambushed by her former mentor Special Agent Collins and a NASA task force who offer her a chance to come back to NASA free of the dangers of homemade rockets or forever stay grounded. Halley takes up the offer, however, it is only a ruse as with her new access to the NASA facility she can sabotage Collins and his task force’s operations. Collins becomes aware of Halley’s ulterior motives after discovering her rocket was a decoy and chases her back to her workshop. Halley primes her real rocket and gets ready to launch as Collins makes one last plea for her to not take such a large risk. Halley makes her decision and launches the rocket finally achieving her goal of reaching the stars.
