Super-Bodhi's Medical Expenses & Road to Recovery
Donation protected
We are raising funds on behalf of Super Bodhi, and his family - Sariah, Samara, and Zara. Bodhi is a 5-month-old who you might consider a "million-dollar baby." After conceiving Bodhi with IVF, Sariah and Samara learned of Bodhi's serious heart defect that would require many surgeries and extended stays in the hospital after his birth.
Earlier this week, Bodhi had his second heart surgery to help make his heart functional, but he's having a hard time recovering. The medical team at Randall's Children's Hospital in Portland has recommended transferring him to Seattle Children's Hospital for a more specialized team with more resources to care for him.
As of right now, Bodhi is very sick. The next steps after the transfer are unknown, but his family is hopeful that they will be able to help him. If not, Seattle is where he will need to be for a heart transplant.
Please consider helping in whatever way you can. Sariah and Samara will be staying in Seattle with Bodhi. We are hopeful to cover as many expenses as possible so that they can focus all their energy on Bodhi without additional worry.
Bodhi's Story.
Bodhi was diagnosed with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS) at just 20 weeks gestation when Sariah and Samara went for their anatomy scan. HLHS is a serious congenital heart defect, a birth defect that affects normal blood flow through the heart. As the baby develops during pregnancy, the left side of the heart does not form correctly. Right away, his parents made plans with this medical team to prepare for a series of surgeries after birth to help make his heart functional.
Bodhi was born on a Monday afternoon and was scheduled for his first (of three) open-heart surgery that Friday, the Norwood Procedure. The procedure went very well, but recovery took longer than expected, feeling a bit like a rollercoaster at times. After 78 days, Bodhi was discharged from the NICU, with a plan to return for his second heart surgery within a few months.
The second heart surgery, the Glenn Procedure, was successful, but Bodhi has had a hard time recovering. His oxygen saturations have been low, even with being on a special type of ventilator. He started to look better, until this weekend. On Saturday (yesterday), they had to give him medicine to paralyze him because he was fighting the vent, but his stats never recovered. After doing a chest X-ray, they discovered a collapsed lung (unknown reason). After some time, his lung opened back up, but again his stats stayed too low. He had an additional procedure to relieve some pressure. Again, his little body couldn't make the improvements they wanted to see.
As of right now, Bodhi is very sick. The medical team at Randall's Children's Hospital has recommended transferring him to Seattle Children's Hospital for a more specialized team with more resources to care for him. The next steps after the transfer are unknown, but his family is hopeful that they will be able to help him. If not, Seattle is where he will need to be for a heart transplant.
Again, we ask that you consider helping in whatever way you can. We are hopeful to cover as many expenses as possible so that they can focus all their energy on Bodhi without additional worry.
